KZN EDR Series & Super League Series Basic Rules

For 2025 Cycling South Africa has introduced the “Super League” this is an additional opportunity to gather points for your school within the KZN Cycling disciplines hosted at a provincial level.

The SUPER LEAGUE will comprise of a 3-stage competition within the Provincial EDR event, and a separate set of results will be issued to schools as a register for points.

The KZN Enduro Series will run as per usual, with participants competing in the required number of staged per age group. LITE -Nippers and Sprogs / FULL Sub-Junior and older. These points will factor towards team selection and provincial colours should the participant meet all the requirements as stated in the CSA Provincial Selection Handbook.

1. General Rules

  • Riders participate at their own risk.
  • Helmets (full-face recommended) are mandatory, gloves, knee pads, and eye protection are highly recommended.
  • Riders must follow the designated course and complete all stages in order presented at Riders Briefing.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, including interference with other riders or course tampering, will result in disqualification.
  • Race officials have the final say on any disputes.

2. Race Format

  • Each event consists of multiple timed downhill stages with untimed liaison (transfer) sections.
  • Riders must complete all timed stages to be classified in the final results.
  • The lowest combined time across all stages determines the winner.

3. Categories & Eligibility

Categories will be based on age and gender, including:

    • Nipper (9-10)
    • Sprog (11-12)
    • Sub Junior (13-14)
    • Youth (15-16)
    • Junior (17-18)
    • Elite (19-29)
    • Sub Veteran (30-39)
    • Veteran (40-49)
    • Master (50-59)
    • E-bike (separate class for pedal-assist bikes)

A valid CSA (Cycling South Africa) license or day license is required to participate in the points log of the KZN Enduro Series as well as the Super League

4. Equipment Rules

  • Bicycles must be in safe working condition with functional brakes and suitable tires.
  • E-bike riders must adhere to power-assist regulations.
  • Riders are responsible for carrying their own tools, spares, and hydration.
  • No outside assistance or “coaching” by other riders/parents is permitted.

5. Safety & Conduct

  • Marshals will be stationed along the course; riders must follow their instructions.
  • In the event of an injury, the nearest rider must alert a marshal or event official.
  • Reckless riding that endangers others will lead to penalties or disqualification.

6. Timing & Results

  • Riders must cross all designated timing checkpoints.
  • Any missed checkpoint will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish).

7. Super League Series Points System

  • Points are awarded based on finishing position at each race.
  • Overall series rankings are determined by accumulated points across all events XCO/XCC AND EDR
  • The SUPER LEAGUE and KZN EDR SERIES are separate points accumulating competitions within the same event.
  • Super League ONLY participants may enter the LITE / Super League Only option on the entry portal. This will consist of 3 stages whos points will be allocated to your school for the Super League competition.
  • The name of your school will be captured on registration at the event.
  • For point accumulation for Super League only you do not need to ride full enduro regardless of your age.

8. KZN EDR Series Points System

  • Points are awarded based on finishing position at each race.
  • Overall series rankings are determined by accumulated points across all KZN EDR Series events
  • The SUPER LEAGUE and KZN EDR SERIES are separate points accumulating competitions within the same event.
  • Those wanting to participate in the KZN EDR Series will be required to enter the race under their age group, and ride the stages required to be eligible. Nipper and Sprog – LITE / Sub Junior and up – FULL
  • The winner and subsequent positions of the series in each age group will be determined by the accumulated points of qualifying events.
